Artist Statement
I am a multidisciplinary artist. My artwork reveals my ongoing relationship with nature. I am moving in the direction of creating art inspired by the landscape while being more conscious of the materials that I create with and the impact they have on the future well being of our environment.
The places where I have lived and traveled throughout my time on this planet have inspired and nourished my art making practice. Since 2022, I have been living in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains located in upstate New York. Experiencing the local nature day-to-day with the changing seasons has been a primary influence in my artwork.
The colors, lines, shapes, textures and patterns that are in this mountainous landscape manifest themselves as stratified gestural marks, pigment pools and interwoven layers of old with new and forgotten with found. I collect plant matter and inorganic materials that behave as inclusions and artifactual reminders within my art making building a memory connection to specific times and places. They are the inspiration for imagery and content in my artwork that is a compilation of visual journaling, painting, papermaking, collaging, printmaking and sculpture.

Biography
GG Stankiewicz is a multidisciplinary artist. She was raised in Rhode Island and moved to New York City after graduating from college. GG attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University in Boston, MA where she pursued and earned a Combined Degree in Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Science in Art Education. GG earned a MFA in Painting at the Rhode Island School of Design. In addition to her art practice, GG served as a high school art teacher for the New York City Department of Education. She has co-founded artist-run organizations: SONYA (South Of the Navy Yard Artists, Brooklyn, NY) and WBA (West Branch Artists, Walton, NY). GG lives in upstate New York.
